Pacific National Exhibition | Vancouver, BC | 2022

Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) commissioned a pilot to deploy multiple types of sensors throughout the whole facility, which involved creating a dashboard for facility managers to observe current conditions at any given time. I was involved in testing and integrating noise, vibration, and water leak sensors via the LORAwan protocol. The main driver for this initiative was the need to measure sound levels during main events (concerts, races, Playland rides) to follow city by-law noise restrictions. Another key data type was vibration data from the various motorized engines powering rides and mechanical equipment - this would potentially warn operators of imminent failure due to excessive vibration from normal wear. This dashboard is currently in use and more sensor types are planned to be deployed in the near future.
